The land surrounding Eksholmssjön is a vivid and flourishing habitat. Many different species thrive here, such as wasps, bees, butterflies, oaks and birches, fishes, waterlilies and many more. The water level changes throughout the seasons. It happens during spring and winter season that the waterline of the lake rises as high as the base of the shelter. The design of the shelter is inspired by the water lilies in the lake. The base, the second platform and the roof are three varieties of the lily leaf. All parts together give the visitors weather protection and views over the lake and its surrounding landscape. The visible construction of the horizontal planes is inspired by the lily leaf structure. The idea is to feel sheltered by nature. To reach the second platform takes a little cunning, but well up there, a beautiful view over the lake and its lilies awaits. The shelter is built in spruce and larch timber. The soft curved walls have a feather edge cladding made with overlapping planks to get an organic look. “The Waterlily” is a playful interpretation of what an experience in nature can be.
