RE:ED

A word from the students:

In the reeds by Lake Tåkern, a wooden boardwalk winds its way to a place where there used to be a shed for bird photographers. When we first got there, we discovered to our surprise that the shed had been taken over by swallows, which had built their nests there. The birds flew in and out through the small gaps in the facade, while we measured the space. Over the next few days, we dismantled the shed, while the little swallows one by one tested their wings and left the nest. When the last baby swallow, which we had named Ferdinand, left its nest, we could finally start our new construction. The idea was to let the boardwalk which leads up to the site, fold onto itself and create a resting place while the visitors are led up over the reed to a beautiful view over Tåkern.

The reuse is reflected in the substructure as well as in the floor and railing, where the facade planks from the old shed are mixed with new wood. In this way, the material is taken care of, while the new construction connects to the history of the place. Under a part of the floor there is also a new place for the swallows, so that they will be able to build their nests also in the future.
